A long-term project with a positive impact

With our go-getters we can regularly contribute to beautiful and special projects. The widening of the A9 is also one of those; a sizeable 6-year project involving many different parties. VeenIX is the responsible construction consortium for this project. To find out more about this special project and Binck's role in it, we spoke with VeenIX contractor Ted Ostermeijer. He explains exactly what the project entails and what contribution Binck is making to it

Ted Ostermeijer uitvoerder VeenIX

“In this project we are working on the widening of the A9 between Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht. Here we go from three to four lanes per direction of travel and an alternating lane is being constructed. Because this project is located in the middle of Amstelveen, we have to deal with a busy environment; many residents and stakeholders come together and there is a lot of traffic. It is quite a challenge to properly prepare and implement this logistics, especially considering that the project will take 6 years in total. ”

And it is not without reason that 6 years have been allocated for this project, says Ostermeijer: “The project covers about 11 kilometers, which makes it a fairly extensive project. A large part of the project will be in a sunken location and three roofs have to be realized, so that will take a lot of work (and therefore also time). It is up to us to ensure that this runs smoothly. ”

Cooperation

As a contractor, Ostermeijer is involved in guiding subcontractors and personnel, making schedules and ordering the necessary materials. He is therefore in close contact with Binck, because we have been involved in this project since the start in 2020. “In the beginning, mainly preparatory work had to be carried out and it is now getting busier. So you see more and more traffic controllers around the project, now about 7 traffic controllers are deployed every week. In order to minimize the burden on the environment and especially the surrounding road network, many exits and entrances have been realized on the motorway exclusively for construction traffic. The traffic controllers are there to guide the traffic that enters and exits there. In this way we can guarantee everyone’s safety. ”

The project has been running for almost a year now and is well on schedule. The collaboration with Binck is also running smoothly, according to Ostermeijer: “What I particularly like about the collaboration so far is that all agreements are really properly fulfilled. The building entrances must also be kept clean, as the in and out truck traffic creates quite a bit of mud on the road. The traffic controllers have tackled this with both hands and ensure that everything remains spic and span. They also help count the freight traffic, which helps the monitors to measure the impact of the project on the environment. In addition, communication with the planning is also very good, it has never happened that someone was where he needed to be. It is very nice to be able to rely on that. ”

Positive impact

It is not only great for Binck to contribute to this special project, VeenIX is also very happy to play a role in this. “With this project, we will soon be taking a section of the highway in the middle of Amstelveen, so that residents will no longer hear, see or smell the highway and there will be fewer traffic jams,” says Ostermeijer. “A park will also be realized on the roof, which makes this a very nice project for the area with a positive impact. It takes 6 years for the local residents to continue, but in return they will get a wonderfully good end result. ”
